A text post about weight
Recently I realized that one reason it’s hard for me to keep up my pace in the pool for an hour to an hour and a half every day is because it gets kind of boring. Sure I can swim laps and change the stroke or try different things in the diving well, but it gets boring anyway. My mind wanders and I slow down. To combat this problem, I invested the $30 in a waterproof mp3 player. There are waterproof ipods but they cost a lot more, so I went for this one. So far I have had no problems with it. The armband wasn’t so great, but I just replaced it using two strips of velcro and that worked fine. The earbuds are also earplugs which is great since I have to wear earplugs anyway. I can feel a difference in my workout because of this little player. I listen to various kinds of fast-paced music and it keeps me moving. I also find that I don’t focus on how tired I am and oh dear God is it over yet. I don’t keep track of how far I go and I’m not training for any events or anything like that. I just water jog and swim for my health, but it was starting to become a chore instead of something I enjoyed. If you swim or water jog, I highly recommend this. Apparently it will work for up to ten meters depth as well, but I haven’t tried that yet.
My parents own this $2,000 exercise bike
and I’m the only one who uses it. I’m only around a few times a year but I never seen anyone else on the bike. It used to be in demand by everyone the first year or so that they had it. Now it just sits, barely used and sad. I just managed to cover it in sweat and make it feel loved. If I could take it home with me and had a place to keep it, I would do so in a heartbeat.
The drugs they gave me at the dentist yesterday made me gain eight pounds over night.
That is not a normal night. I’ve been drinking water and tea like a fish and I’m still bloated beyond belief. I expected my face to swell but was not prepared for hippo-mode.
In other news, there’s no way I’m going to make it to the 150’s by August unless I do something drastic like ingest a tapeworm (don’t worry, I won’t). Not that it’s all about the numbers but it’s a little depressing to be stuck with no control over what’s happening. I can control my exercise and food, but I can’t control my thyroid and it’s been off the past few months. It’s really frustrating when you do all the right things, but because you’re ill, your body can’t do what it needs to.
Heading to the pool to work out the feelings
I tried something new
I tried eating more calories according to the MFP recommendations. LOL HAHA JK didn’t work. We all know why. Say it with me. Thyroid. Seems like I need to go back to my old caloric range.
This week my joints feel good enough to bike again and I did this morning. Last week I really needed to give them a break and I started a little slow today. I don’t want to intentionally hurt myself over this but am about to go for a little walk to the grocery store and I’m back in the pool tonight.
Also, I had been told that iodine is bad for your thyroid. I know that radioactive iodine is used for people with Grave’s Disease and can be terrible for you if you have hypothyroid problems like me. But what about regular iodine? It’s supposed to be key in maintaining a healthy weight. Anyone out there know more about this? I’ve heard both sides, yes you should have iodine and no you shouldn’t because it could make things worse, and it just sounds like a crapshoot. I’ve been on the side of caution, I guess you could say, and have avoided iodine for the most part (I use non-iodinized salt, for example). Now I’m starting to wonder if I actually should be paying more attention to it.
Very glad I made the decision to take it easier this week
I still got exercise in but focused on the pool and stayed clear of the bike. I just walked today for the first time. I think I was overdoing it and stressing my body too much.
I suppose I need to put biking on hold. My hips have been in so much pain and the biking just makes it worse. I know it’s supposed to be easy on your joints but it’s been killing mine. I normally get bone and joint pain because of my Hashi’s. Today while driving I got shooting pains up my leg bones to my hip. My hip pain is now more than the joint, it now includes my leg and pelvis. Great. I’ve been sitting on a special pillow for two weeks now. The swimming and water jogging seems to help so I think I should just stick to the water and stop other exercise. I try to push through it but I am probably doing more harm than good.
